Update here: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-47014322

I'm sure this has happened before, but no easy analogues come to mind. Wonder how much of a role international recognition plays in who ends up winning.

A little bit more context here on why some of the countries that do (and don't) support Guaido have chosen to do so: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019/01/venezuela-cuts-ties-citing-support-coup-attempt-190124062525471.html

Basically, countries that fear a similar change of power are against it, and countries that think they have something to gain are for it.

That article says any transition of power will require support of armed forces, who (so far) have been loyal to Maduro. Anyone have more insight here?
